11-29-2011

Last Saturday I went to you to help host the Lego regional. My main job was to brodcast through the projector the matches. Through out the next week I helped sand the battery cases for the next AUV.  This week I helped fit the AUV components in the frame that was 3D printed. Today I cutted 40in PVC pipes. This pipes are going to be used in the FLL tournament as a reference for the quiers so they could find the teams more easylly and faster.

11-18-2011

Last weekend on Saturday I webcasted the LEGO conference help for refs. After that in the middle of the week I updated the AUV weight list by adding the weight of 4 subconns I weighted. The other Thursday I helped organize the tables for the Lego scrimmage. The I set up the broadcasting. In the last days I worked a little with the NURC structures.

Nov 3, 2011

Monday I was testing the web-casting equipment for the Lego comference in the playroom. First I comfirmed of we had a ustream account working. Then I located an internet source. Second I tested the microphone if it was working. The next days I was working with NURC cad files. Wednesday I went to mentor the J.B. Sutton kids. They were working in building the pieces. Today I teach how to program LEGO robots to kids from a team from a Middle School.

10-27-11

At the beginnig of the week I was working in the NURC staff. I was cadding a file that Dillon made in Autodesk to Google sketch up. I continued doing this trhought all the week. By the end of the weeek Rangel shared me a most updated copy of the new AUV cad file. So I started to update my weight spreadsheet. I almost I am done but I still need to weight the wires and the connectors which we still don't know exactly how many we are going to use and what weight. The weight of the next AUV will be arond 60 and 70 pounds as of right now.

10-19-2011

The first days of the week I helped the the new people fix the new robot. In the freshmen robot I had to fix the spacing between the wheels and the sprockets. I putted washers between the sprocket and the wheel. After that we had problems mounting the wheel so we had to took it off for more times. At the end Martin found that one wheel was mounted the wrong way. Yestoday  I helped Martin mill the abs pipe by holding it and attaching it to the mill table.

On Tuesday Maria left early and she could not stay after school so I had to do the web casting workshop. Since the workshop is pretty easy it only lasted 30 minutes. I teached them how to connect the camera which is very easy. Then how sign in and get in into the website. Then how to go live, change video and audio quality, chose different camera, change the audio source and how to add words to the video.

Here is a picture of a torpedo that I CADed with the help of Steve.

October 4, 2011

I been working in the bouyancy of the new AUV. As of right now it will weight about 58 pounds without counting the wires and the subconn connectors. Now I am waiting for the new design that Rangel is going to finish. Last Wednesday I went to mentor to JB. Sutton. They don't have all the materials so we did not got anything done pretty much. But still we did some work in programing the lego robots.

09/30/2011

In the last days Ive been working in finding the bouyancy of the AUV. As of right now I know that aproximately the weigh of the frame will weight about 29 pounds. I also weighted some of the electrical componets that were available to weight. I had to weigh a Seabotix truster that weighted about 700 grams and the scale that I had was not rated for that weight. So I puted weigh at the end of the balance and I learn that the more the weight it is away from the point the balance is being balace it will weight more. As of right now I am about 60% done to finish calculating the weight of the new AUV.

09/21/2011

Last Wednesday I attended the mentor & referee meeting. We talked there about what are we going to do in the next days. Last week I helped Martin reset the mill. I had to to change the chuck to and replace it with an endmill device which I don't know its name. After that I cleaned the mill. Yes today I cut pieces of fiber glass and then I glued them together so Martin can use them for the jig. I also helped martin do some calculation that he needed to determinate the length of the slot in the jig where the fins were going to be placed. I also got more experience in the mill because Steve told us some tricks that we could use to improve our skill while milling. One thing that I learned is that when you tighten the chuck you put at least 5-10 lb of pressure not 50 or 60 lb that I use while tightening.
Today after school I had to teach a freshmen how to replace the blades In the Dremel. Then I tough How to use it. Five minutes before living after martin tested his toypedos I painted it Blue.

09/08/2011

Wednesday I helped take apart the first robot that we built last year. I took apart mainly the most fragile components which were mostly electrical and mechanical. After that when the construction workshop for new members started I helped by teaching the new members how to use the tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, allen wrenches and others. I worked for about an hour taking apart the main frame and structure of the old robot. After that I helped the new members clean the robot room.
Today, Thursday I noticed that I was the only person to write in the AUV activity sheet during a gap of almost 4 weeks of inactivity.
In the morning Mr. Lajvardi, Martin and me tested the toypedo that Martin and company built. After that we got to the conclusion that the fins may bend because of the applied water pressure and speed that builds up while traveling at a fast speed. This caused the toypedo go down instead of going forward.
Minutes later I started to make a jig that will help us make our own fins. I had to cut some pieces of 1/4 fiber glass c channel (3 1/2 x 3 1/2). With this square pieces I glued them one on top of each other with epoxy to make a cube piece of fiber glass, this will be the main part to make the jig for the fins.
After school I helped host the mechanical/building/construction workshop. Todays lesson was how to use the hacksaw efficiently but at the same time fast. At the beginning I was counting the time people took to cut a 1/4 thick, one and half  angle of fiber glass. After that I supervised the new members by watching if they were doing the right thing. The last Friday I found a broom broke. I fixed it and today after the workshop I carved, with the mill, mine name on it because I fixed it.
Facts: over 5,100 words written on blog and more 27,000 characters typed. I expect to reach 10000 words by January.

09/07/2011

The last week I was working with the water filters and skimmers in the marine science. The first day I made one work but they look they are defectous. Then joach, a new member and me fixed the guills skimmer that was not working properly. We added at the end of tube another piece of tube so the water level will raise and the system will work properly. After that we were lookimg for ideas of how to use other skimmer systems but It look that they needed parts. The next day I connected three diferrent fish tanks and I made a water filter work for the three of them. The tubes that were connecting the tanks were half inch which is too small a large amount of water to pass trough. I stoped that project because I needed permission to change the tanks. I am also waiting what will happen next because I need another tank to finish the project.

CAD drawing by: John Rangel, Dillon Dayea and Carlos Ruvio

In the last day I been trying to find the bouyancy of the next robot. But I can not find the real calculation. As of right now I am practicing and learning how to find the if the old robot is negative, positive, or neutral. I also asked Jonh for help to check if the measurements were wrong since he was the main author of the CAD models. He found some errors but still the calculations show that the robot weights 121 pounds which is not right. Today I am going to contact or ask Steve for help. Now I asked Steve and the way I am trying to find the calculations is right. I am still off by 10%. I did a more detailed CAD drawing were I added the weights, modified-ed the fiber glass which was off, added the compass and its tail, and I also changed a little the trusters look. The result of the new cad drawing showed that the robot will display 121lb of water. This friday I attended the Friday meeting. After school I went to the south parking lot to get the ice chest. Now I am going to help Martin with the sound triangulation project. I already started to look what the components are and how they work. One day in the week I was explaining a new member of the team things about the CAD software Autodesk Inventor and I gave him a very basic tutorial. I also told him things about what we do on the team.

08-16-2011

On the last weekend I brought a valve for the torpedo.
Currently I am working in the buoyancy of the electrical case. I am trying to find how much is going to weight and if its going to be positive, negative or neutral underwater.

08-11-2011

Today I helped a new member by teaching him some really basic things on Inventor. I showed him how to do a cylinder and assemble two pieces. After school me and Joach raised money from people so Ledge can buy a sprigckler valve for the conon that we are making. I also researched for sprincler threaded valves but it seems that they dont have them online. I also called NAPA and they did not have metal ones we are probably going to buy the rubber ones.

Here is the link to one of the probable stem valves that cost $2 that we are going to probably buy.

05-04-11

This week I went to nationals. The first day me and the others had to carry the crates from the airport to the Hotel. The next day I had to scout with the other scouters. Friday half of the day I had to scout and the other half I had to record the matches with flip camera. The last day there was not that much to scout and I had to take of some matches and that was it. On friday I decided not to got the concert and I stayed to scout and look at the other matches to find out if we were going to be an alliance captain or i we were going to be picked.

Scouting

Since the first day that the information about the divisions was reveled Ive been scouting. The main columns that I scouted were the regional wins, record, and the autonomous and mini-bot. The main sources of information to scout that I had use are thebluealliance, ChiefDhelfi, Youtube, and the correspondent website of each team.

04-24-2010 Field

I worked in building a prototype grabber that Eddie designed. Last Saturday I helped move the field to the library. Then I fixed some tubes that were deflated in the matches. Friday 22 I also helped take the field again so the drivers can practice the high peg and a more spacious field. Some of the parts of the field were missing so I had to made new ones. They were the bottom pegs. When I was doing them I had to cut a circle with the circular saw, I got to use the most expensive and strongest drill we have in the robotics room, the Hitachi.

03-17-2010

I been working a little in the deploment system a little. The other day I was helping the drivers to practice by helping them to pick up the tubes and keeping track of their penalties and scores. Last week I was mounting the AUVSI motors. I had to cut strips of lexan (.3"X.5"X6.5"). Then fold them around the motors. At the end velvet the lexan to the fiber glass.

In the last weeks I been working here and there. I had clean some days. At least I have fixed the hubertubes 5 times since the start of the season.  I went to Duel in the Desert and I helped carry things from the vans to the places we went. I played some matches as a human player. When the event as over I helped people load a truck with the pieces of the field. Last week I started to take some measurements of AUVSI robot to mount the motors.

January 17, 2010

This last Saturday I attended the FRC kick off of the 2011 season. Later in that day I started to read the manual of the game. At the end of the day I helped in the inventory and I learned new things especially about motors.
Throughout the rest of the week  I was listening to the new ideas people was having. Thursday 13 and Friday 14, I helped cut and filled pieces of fiber glass that would be places in the sides of the robot near the wheels. Saturday 15, in the FTC competition in Flagstaff I was going to web-cast but there was only one web-casting job. Then Maria gave me a job to Que the teams. At then end of the day I helped fold the chairs and tables in the place were the teams were installed.
Monday 17 I helped unbolt pieces of Dulce's Dream so we can make holes to mount the wheels.
